How do I get a library card?
Children must be at least in kindergarten, able to sign their own names, and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who has an ID with current name and address.
People ages 14 and up must have some form of ID with current name and address. This may include: driver's license, report card, mail addressed to you, check.
Come into the library and fill out an application. Starting January 1, 1999, children ages 6-8 will receive a special bag when they get their first library card!
How do I renew a book?
Call the library at 642 - 9210 during open hours to have books renewed, or bring them in to the library or bookmobile.
How many books may I take out at a time?
There is no limit to the amount of books checked out. However, all books on one subject may not be checked out by one person. Remember, fines are $.10 per book per day and video fines are $1.00 per video per day.
How do I reserve a book?
Call the library at 642 - 9210 during open hours or stop in at the library or bookmobile and ask us to reserve any title. If the library does not own the book, see ILL.
What is ILL?
ILL stands for InterLibrary Loan. The library can try to borrow any book from other libraries in the state. You may click on ACCESS PA to search the Pennsylvania Database or to see if the Smith Library owns a book. If you cannot find the book on ACCESS PA, we send the request to Warren Library and they try to find the title somewhere else. Most libraries send ILL books for a one month checkout period.
What does the W in S.W. Smith stand for?
Walter. The C in Eleanor C. Smith stands for Catherine.
What is Friends of the Library?
A group of interested people who meet monthly and help raise money and volunteers for the library. Meetings are usually held the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM. President Muriel Gustafson can be contacted if you have any questions at 642 - 2882.
