- May 31: Book Buddies meet to discuss Now that You Mention It by Kristan Higgins, 6-7pm. Any adult is welcome to join!
- June 2: Last day to register for Story Hour or SummerQuest at the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library.
- June 9: Sciencetellers 1pm: Learning Science through Storytelling “The Mystery of the Golden Piano”: Grab your spurs and journey with us to the Wild West, where a legendary bank-robbing outlaw is back in town, about to strike again! After the Sheriff mysteriously vanishes, two young kids must saddle up to foil the great heist — but not before stopping a runaway train, escaping an abandoned mine shaft and discovering how a mysterious piano can play an ‘instrumental’ part in putting a rotten cowboy back behind bars.
- Throughout this absolutely wild adventure story, volunteers from the audience will help us explore the fascinating science behind chemical reactions, acids and bases, combustion, air pressure, inertia and more. Don’t miss this classic action-packed western with ‘notes’ of science! Free Admission!
- June 19: Teen Game Day, 11:30-12:30: Library Leaders Program for patrons age 12-17: Play games on the library’s Xbox and explore our STEM toys like robots and circuit boards or build with Legos, K’Nex and other construction kits. Pizza will be served!
- June 23: Afternoon Movie, 1-2:30 Gnomeo and Juliet: Patrons, adults and children, are invited to an afternoon movie at the library. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Garden gnomes Gnomeo and Juliet have many Shakespearean obstacles to overcome when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find lasting happiness? Featuring a rockin’ musical score by Elton John! Popcorn will be served!
- June 24: Karen Strait’s Retirement Party 2-4pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Allegany. The Library Board and Staff is celebrating Karen’s careen of 38.5 years at the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library. The party is an Open House, Karen’s family, friends, neighbors, and library patrons are welcome to attend! Cake, coffee, and punch will be served.
- June 26: Teen Book Club, 11:30-12:30: One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus: Library Leaders Program (age 12-17). Discuss the selected title with your peers and discover new authors and books to read! Chocolate will be served!
- June 27: Sun Dance Kids Farm Petting Zoo, 10-2pm: Michael Morton is bringing a petting zoo to the library! This free public program is sponsored by the Kysor Family and the proceeds from the S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library Summer Fun Raffle.
- June 28: Book Buddies, 6pm: An American Marriage by Tayarie Jones: Book Buddies Book Club meets the last Thursday each month at 6pm at the library to discuss the monthly book selection.
